As you might guess when you learn that I have a degree in music education, I love both creative arts and communicating life-changing truth. It’s no surprise that I also love being part of a creative team of performing artists, communication trainers and innovators who develop new ministry tools for Cru.
Why I Do What I Do
Worship leader and songwriter Chris Tomlin has recorded a “World Edition” of his classic praise song, “How Great Is Our God.” Maybe you’ve heard it; it starts with a lone voice singing in a haunting middle-eastern style. Then different singers join in, each singing a section of the song in their own language. By the end they’ve sung in (according to Wikipedia.com) Hindi, Indonesian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Zulu, Afrikaans, Mandarin and of course the original English.
I have to admit, every time I hear that song I choke up.
Every. Single. Time.
I am overwhelmed at the sound of so many people in so many languages from so many parts of the world singing with one heart to praise the one true God!
With all my heart, I believe that this is God’s heart: to see “a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne” in worship!! (Rev. 7:9, NIV)
It amazes me that God offers us – no, not just offers, but calls us to—the astonishing privilege of working with Him to help turn His vision into reality! Remember, this is the author of the universe that we’re talking about here. You know, the one who dreamed up snowflakes and galaxies and deep-sea creatures and the colors of the rainbow, and then simply spoke them all into being. He’s the one who wants us—you and me—to help Him!
This is why I am a staff member with Cru. God wants to redeem His creation, and I want to be part of it. For me the best place to do that is Cru.
But I can’t do it alone. Cru has no central funds to pay its missionaries, so my salary and expenses are funded by monthly gifts from people like you.
Together we can help fulfill God’s vision to redeem the world. Will you join me?
(Oh, and in case you haven’t heard the song, or if you just want to hear it again, here’s the official video from YouTube.)
