Conference Friends

Another highlight of the Staff Conference (see previous posts) was connecting with staff friends from around the US and also from ForeRunner, our sister music ministry in Singapore. I also had great roommates, pictured below. On the left is Liz, a former Keynote summer project student who came to play cello with our conference worship band. On the right is Leslie, a friend from Indianapolis who works with LifeBuilders, a Campus Crusade ministry for one-on-one discipleship. Leslie sent me this photo and the one of the Keynote conference worship band, at the top of the page.

The Keynote Caravan

I’ll bet you’ve never seen a caravan quite like this one. We took a car, a rental truck, two vans, and a bus hauling a trailer (yes, you read that right!) to Fort Collins, CO. Then we added another van & trailer on the trip back! Keynote provided the conference worship music (pictured below), showcased our evangelistic bands, and had a booth with promotional materials at the conference Ministry Fair. When you add all these things together it means we have to haul a lot of STUFF out to CO and back — hence all the vehicles!!

Call me crazy, but I actually enjoyed the two-day trip out and back! I rode on the bus, where I read, chatted with coworkers I don’t often spend time with, and even used a ministry laptop (the bus has something called a power inverter that runs several electrical outlets.) There are even two VCRs, some built-in bunk beds (which I didn’t use) and a not-so-great-but-helpful-in-an-emergency bathroom in the back!

Like I said, I enjoyed the ride. I think a few fast-food workers freaked out when our whole entourage stopped for meals, though…

U.S. Staff Conference

A few days ago I returned from Campus Crusade for Christ’s U.S. Staff Conference, held every other year at Colorado State University. I heard wonderful speakers, including Dr. Joseph Stowell, outgoing president of Moody Bible Institute, and Dr. Alice Mathews of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and RBC Ministries.

On a bittersweet note, I also said goodbye in CO to my roommate, Janiê Sucupira. She is in Florida right now and on Sunday is returning to Brazil to start a music ministry for Campus Crusade there. She’s praying that she will be able to bring several other Brazilians to Keynote’s 2007 Summer Project. Please join me in asking God for a safe journey and to bless her ministry!
