Winter Study and Next Steps

Bible Study Methods materialsTwice a year I take a couple of weeks away from my Innovation responsibilities to coach a small group for Bible Study Methods. This class is part of Cru’s Institute of Biblical Studies for staff members. This January course was once again held virtually due to COVID; in fact, if we had tried to do it live, 5 of my 7 group members wouldn’t have been there because they were either recovering from COVID or living with a family member who was!

Afterwards, we asked the participants for anonymous feedback. Here are two comments about the course:

“I feel very prepared with shareable tools to study Scripture. I anticipate it benefitting my own personal study and I feel confident in sharing this framework with students that I minister to.”

“Before the class, I felt bored by how I was studying Scripture and didn’t really have a routine. God both challenged me and encouraged me to continue learning about how to study Scripture. I’m surprised how much God has taught me by studying a passage that was so familiar in a new way.”

When asked for feedback about me as their coach, a couple of them said this:

“I loved Denise! She did an excellent job facilitating with the perfect balance of asking questions and allowing us time to talk it out ourselves. She was a huge asset to our group!”

“She was outstanding! Very articulate, prepared, intuitive and compassionate listener. She gently corrected and gave outstanding feedback on coursework. She honestly did everything well!!!”

(There were some suggestions for improvement, too, but I hope you don’t mind if I keep those to myself! :))

Next Steps in Innovation

Speaking of studying the Bible, our Innovation team is researching the best way to teach the Bible to Gen Z (the current generation of students). They love learning, but their learning style is very different from previous generations, so we need to use new teaching methods to help them learn the Bible effectively. I expect that my coaching experience with the Bible Study Methods course will provide helpful insights.

Please pray…

…that God will guide the Innovation team in our research into Gen Z learning styles

…that we will discern principles that will help Cru write effective Bible study tools for Gen Z

…that God will use the Cru staff members who took January’s Bible Study Methods course to help others learn the Scriptures.

Thank you for praying!
