Studying Hebrews and Finding Christmas

Every week my staff team gets together to discuss the Bible and pray. We just finished Hebrews, which is one of my favorite books in the New Testament. I love the insights it gives about the person and work of Christ!

14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. 15 Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying…17 Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. (Hebrews 2:14-15, 17a, NLT)

24 But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. 25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. (Hebrews 7:24-25, NLT)

14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:14-16, NLT)

That in a nutshell is what Christmas is all about! God the Son immersed Himself into humanity, died to set us free and now lives to give us permanent access to God!

Studying the Bible and understanding theology plays an important role in the work I do with Innovation Group for Cru®. When we develop new tools and materials, we need to be sure they accurately present the truth of scripture. I have an additional reason to stay sharp theologically because I coach a two-week Bible Study Methods class twice a year for new Cru staff members. I took some seminary courses a while ago and I’m very close to finishing a master’s degree, so please pray that I will be able to take another course in 2023.

Thank you for your partnership in bringing God’s word to those who need to hear! He has used your gifts and prayers to help create fresh, new ways to connect people with Jesus!

Merry Christmas!
